Daniel Lacalle: The hypocrisy of Europe in NATO, does Spain need a chainsaw? and fear in the US
In this Money & Markets program, Daniel Lacalle, has strongly criticized the position of the European Union against the conflict in Ukraine, highlighting the hypocrisy of NATO partners. He points out that, while the United States contributes 70% of the expense in defense of the Alliance, other members do not achieve 20%, with countries such as the United Kingdom, France and Germany with relatively low contributions. Lacalle warns that the European Union must significantly increase its investment in defense, which is unlikely due to strong internal opposition and tax problems. Criticism of the Biden administration strategy and the lack of effective action in the region, stressing that without the active participation of the United States and a true negotiation, there is no solution for Ukraine. He affirms that the European Union has the ability to invest more in defense, which not only would strengthen its security, but also improve relations with the United States, a key partner.
Lacalle interviews Pablo Cambronero, former deputy, has evidenced the waste of public money in Spain through his Twitter account, where he uncovers millionaire matches of the ministries, such as those managed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). Cambronero points out that, between 2020 and 2024, the AECID distributed almost 19,000 million euros in subsidies without consideration, many of them destined for questionable projects such as the financing of psychologists for Hamas prisoners in Israel or the subsidy to the Supreme Court of Cuba. In addition, it criticizes the allocation of funds for “Woke” initiatives, such as the resilience of indigenous populations in Mexico or LGTBI activities in Haiti, which it considers absurd and not very effective. According to Cambronero, this lack of control in the use of the taxes of Spanish citizens reflects a lack of transparency and responsibility in public management, and warns about the need to end these practices.
